Dr. Gottschalk is the Chair of the Department of Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy at St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He is a physician scientist, who is interested in hematopoietic cell transplantation and cell-based immunotherapies. His current research focuses on the development of T-cell therapies for hematological malignancies, sarcomas, and brain tumors, and gene therapy approaches for nonmalignant disease. He is actively conducting investigator-initiated early phase clinical studies. In the laboratory, his team of MD and PhD researchers is working on several peer-reviewed research projects focused on overcoming current limitations of T-cell therapies for cancer using genetic approaches. His research has been NIH/NCI funded since 2002, and he was elected into the American Society of Clinical Investigation for his contributions to the fields of hematopoietic cell transplantation and cell based immunotherapies.
