Prof. Jastaniah obtained his Medical Degree from King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 1996. He is double board certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology/BMT by the American Board, and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He obtained the American Board in Pediatrics in October 2001, and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in General Pediatrics in June 2002.

He then obtained his fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology/BMT at the University of British Columbia, Canada, and Hematology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Canada in June 2002, and then certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology in November 2006.

Prof. Wasil Jastaniah is a Professor of Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology/BMT at the College of Medicine in Umm Al-Qurah University, Makkah, Saudi Arabia. He is also a Consultant of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology/BMT since January 2007, appointed as Section Head of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology/BMT from 2007 till 2015; Chairman of Princess Noorah Oncology Center since 2010 at King Abdulaziz Medical City, National Guard Health Affairs, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Vice President of the Saudi Arabian Pediatric Hematology Oncology Society (SaPHOS) from 2011 – 2014. Prior to this, he was the Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine in Umm Al-Qurah University, Makkah, Saudi Arabia and worked as a Consultant Pediatric Hematology/Oncology/BMT in Department of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology/BMT at the British Columbia’s Children’s Hospital, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada from July 2005 till January 2007.

Prof. Jastaniah has won numerous awards and distinctions in academic performance and leadership roles. Prof. Jastaniah has been a member of the American Society of Hematology, the International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP), an international associate member of the Children’s Oncology Group, and other national/international societies.
Prof. Jastaniah has had numerous publications and has been an invited speaker at several international congresses. He has served as an editorial board member of the Journal of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, a reviewer of several journals including the Pediatric Blood and Cancer Journal, and served as a scientific chair and member in national and international societies. His current research focus is in acute leukemia and sickle cell anemia.
